Opportunity Details

Are you interested in providing your expertise by offering a second opinion for a proposed Orthopaedic Spine Surgery? 

You will review progress notes for the patient, specialist consult notes, treating physician progress notes, ancillary notes (PT/OT), test results and reports (radiology, laboratory and others) for Lumbar Laminectomy, Lumbar Fusion, Lumbar Discectomy and Cervical Fusion cases through our ReviewerTools™ portal to provide your opinion on proposed treatment. No patient contact is involved.

In business for almost 40 years, Medical Review Institute of America, LLC (MRIoA) is an Independent Review Organization, who facilitates the review of medical claims to determine treatment appropriateness. 


  • Work can be done around your availability, no minimum volume expectations.
  • Work remotely from your home or office, anywhere in the US.
  • Spend 45-75 minutes per review, with typically a 24-36 hour turnaround time.
  • No peer to peer calls, no patient contact.
  • Case rates apply, $200 - $250 per case, depending on the complexity of the case
  • Will review: Lumbar Laminectomy, Lumbar Fusion, Lumbar Discectomy and Cervical Fusion cases through our ReviewerTools™

2nd opinion reviewers must be:

  • In current, active Orthopedic practice a minimum of 8 hours per week.
  • Currently Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Must have an unencumbered state license.
  • US Citizen or Green Card holder (we are unable to sponsor a VISA for this work)


  • You will be covered under MRIoA’s Malpractice Insurance as well as our Errors and Omissions policy
  • Non-employed Independent Contractor (1099) opportunity.
